Week 3A: Sept. 8

Today in class, we went over the required reading assigned last class, then a few of us presented the icons we found from the icons that we were supposed to find and post to our blog. Next, there was a presentation about metaphor and icon creation which is a good introduction to the icon project. We were then shown the Icon Creative Process. First up is the Brief, which you will see below:

The Brief:

1. What is it's context?
- The context for the utility icons for the Library site is several places. First would be the main page, including the yellow "Ask a Librarian" button, then at the bottom page, for "Finding Info," "Tools and Services," and "About the Library." From then I would branch onto other pages, such as the Request it and EZ Borrow. I might branch out onto other minor pages, such as Articles and Databases, Books, and Research Guide.

2. What is it for?
- These icons would be utility icons for the Library website to help create a better visual experience for users who visit the website. Some of these icons could even be used outside of the website to promote the library.

3. Who's it for?
- These icons would be designed for the Library's website.

5. Is there a single message?
- I feel like there will be more than one message to the icons, depending on the context of them, some of them to provide better visual navigation throughout the site.

6. Does it need to be an icon?
-  Not necessarily. It could also be a pictogram, such as different animals. However, I feel that it might be a little too childish for the website. I will try it out though and see what others think.
